Description

During the weekend of February 25 we will celebrate the accomplishments of Dr. Donald Shoup as the 2023 SEASIDE Prize™  recipent for his signifigant contributions to understanding the impact of parking on the built environment, traffic congestion, energy consumption, and local economic development. Dr. Shoup is a distinguished professor in the Department of Urban Planning at UCLA, a fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners, an Honorary Professor at the Beijing Transportation Research Center, a winner of the American Planning Association's National Excellence Award as a Planning Pioneer & the American Collegiate School's Distinguished Excellence Award. The SEASIDE Institute awards the SEASIDE Prize™ to individuals, organizations, or communities who have made major contributions to the quality and character of their community. SEASIDE Prize recipients are leaders in urban design, planning, architecture, development, and education, having a major influence on how towns and cities can best be built and re-built to reflect and promote new urban principles. These elements walkability, diversity, beauty, and sustainability are exemplified in more than 200 New Urbanist communities throughout the United States and around the world which inspire and enrich quality of life.
